How Mark Matthews Tricked Miami to Choose Texas A&M
Five-star offensive lineman Mark Matthews has officially committed to the Texas A&M Aggies. Matthews, a highly sought-after recruit from the class of 2027, had his top three options as Texas A&M, Georgia, and Miami. Despite Georgia being one of his leading choices throughout the recruitment process, Matthews ultimately decided to join the Aggies.
Standing at 6-foot-3 and weighing 300 pounds, Matthews was one of Georgia’s prime targets for their 2027 class. His commitment was memorable and energetic—he tossed his Texas A&M hat into the crowd and then revealed an Aggies jersey after removing his sweater. Both the Georgia and Texas A&M hats were pushed off the table during the announcement, creating a lively moment.According to 247Sports Rankings, Matthews is the nation’s top offensive tackle and the No. 3 overall player in the 2027 class. He’s also the highest-ranked recruit from Florida, where he plays high school football at St. Thomas Aquinas in Fort Lauderdale. With Matthews off the board, Coach Kirby Smart and the Georgia staff will now look to other prospects to strengthen their roster. Interestingly, Georgia’s defensive line could face Matthews in 2027 when the Bulldogs visit Texas A&M in College Station.
