Steam's New Game "Taival" Might Finally Crack the Minecraft Formula
Minecraft is the undisputed king of voxel sandbox games. Over the years, countless games on Steam have tried to copy its blocky aesthetic and crafting style. Yet, almost all of them fail to capture what made players fall in love with Minecraft in the first place: the unforgettable sense of discovery, endless freedom, co-op chaos, and unique progression.
Most "Minecraft-like" games fail because they are simply too similar to the original. They copy the blocks but miss the magic.
However, a new Steam game called Taival is trying something different. Instead of just cloning the formula, it is bringing its own unique "X-factor" to the genre.
Learning from the "Soulslike" Genre
To understand why Taival is exciting, look at "Soulslike" games (games inspired by Dark Souls). Many developers outside of FromSoftware have made massive hits in that genre. They succeed because they don't just copy the original game; they add their own spin.
Other voxel games have tried this too. For example:
Cube World and Hytale chose to focus on deepening combat, exploration, and RPG mechanics.
Instead of going down the RPG route, Taival is taking its unique twist in a completely different direction.
The "Taival" Difference: Co-op and Story
Taival understands what makes Minecraft tick, but it expands on the formula by focusing heavily on two things: deepening cooperative gameplay and focusing on a narrative.
While Minecraft gives you a silent, open world to do whatever you want, Taival aims to guide players through a more structured, story-driven experience without losing that classic sandbox freedom. By making teamwork and story central to the gameplay, it gives players a brand-new reason to explore a blocky world with their friends.
If you love survival crafting games but want a stronger sense of purpose and better co-op mechanics, Taival is definitely a Steam game to keep on your radar.
